Minecraft Review

Introduction paragraph

Minecraft is one of the most creative games ever, and one of the most popular. It combines survival and crafting, creating all your tools and building object out of the blocks surrounding you. Download Minecraft and join the worldwide army of its fans!

Minecraft Concept 5/5

The survival version of Minecraft is a sort of robinsonade. Your character is alone in a strange place, with nothing but bare hands to work and everything around to use for crafting. The night is coming, and it’s full of terrors. You need something to eat and somewhere to dwell. So come on, make your home and your weapons!

All the world here consists of cubes you can use for crafting anything, including sophisticated tools and even living creatures. Start with the most primitive ones, like a stone axe, and then advance. The list of available items to craft is as great as the list of materials. This is a world where danger fosters human creativity; like it was in real history.

But many players prefer Creative mode to Survival. In Creative, you can build anything, including skyscrapers, castles, mountains, whole cities or islands. Of course, it takes talent, patience, and cooperativeness. But the result pays: making something so great motivates.

Visuals Effects 5/5

It’s the very case when a bug becomes a feature. The cubic shape of the elements is partly Lego-inspired, partly defined by hardware limitations, so the picture is easier to process. But as for now, it’s a Minecraft’s mark, so it keeps it cubic-pixelized style. Anyway, if you take really many of them, you’ll get your object detailed enough.

Audio Effects 5/5

Minecraft is mostly a visual game, and sounds aren’t critical for it. Still, the developer cared for the music, and so a young German composer Daniel Rosenfeld wrote the soundtrack, a set of ambient tracks that became popular partly due to Minecraft, and partly due to their quality. These tracks are still great, and they’re included.

Controls 5/5

Though the Xbox version of Minecraft wasn’t planned initially, it wasn’t hard to adjust its controls for the gamepad. There’s nothing unclear about movements and actions. Building and crafting will require a little mastering, but it won’t take long. Where the console version is much better is local multiplayer. All the participants can have their gamepads and build some grand object together. Both survival and cooperative multiplayer allow for up to four players.

Replay Value 5/5

It’s just inexhaustible. There’s nothing you cannot draw; even the objects that don’t exist in real life can be drawn… or built in Minecraft. Enthusiasts cooperate on recreating the most famous real and fictional objects, from Notre-Dame de Paris and the White House to The Millennium Falcon and Winterfell.

Summary

Minecraft is more than a digital version of LEGO (as it’s sometimes referred to). It’s a culture and a cult of its own, one of the rare games with construction put over destruction.
